Our Story

Before moving to Bozeman in 2002 I had worked in New York City as a graphic designer for several years, and while the experience was a positive one, the environment and lifestyle in that area was always a trade-off. I had never been to Montana and arrived in Bozeman at the end of a month-long road trip during the summer of 2002 and I immediately felt at home here. My love for photography and my passion for the outdoors made the decision to relocate to Bozeman an easy one. I started my first design business shortly thereafter and spent the next fourteen years creating the work you'll find on this website.

In 2014 I began moving away from my graphic design business and was lucky enough to become a guide in Yellowstone National Park—although it wasn’t quite that simple. I had spent nearly a decade exploring this incredible wilderness and in 2011 I began developing a website that would eventually become an online resource for hiking and backpacking in Yellowstone National Park. As luck would have it the National Park Service opened the permit system in 2014 and I was able to transition from graphic designer to full-time backcountry guide. This was an extraordinary opportunity and one that occupied my life from 2014-2020.

Now, a new chapter begins with a return to the old and familiar, along with a fresh perspective and a renewed energy. Render Haus Design represents decades of experience in brand development, marketing and graphic design with a brief but much needed detour along the way.

The photographs listed below were taken during some of my travels throughout the West and while guiding in Yellowstone National Park. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you.
